| PAINTING WITH PAPA AT JFKIDS PORT! |
 |
Father’s Day was celebrated at
JFKids Port on June 18th in grand
style. Each one of the little students
was invited to bring his or her father,
uncle, or guardian to participate in this
special day.
In the afternoon on that Friday
the children sat with their dads and
painted decorative tiles. All ages
participated, refreshments were
served, and a delightful array of artwork
was produced. The art is on
display at the school!
JFKids Port still has openings for
summer camp on a full time or part
time basis. Interested families may call
Judy Walia, the Educational Director,
at 718-553-5437.

John F. Kennedy International Airport wins top award from leading cargo trade publication in Asia.
John F. Kennedy International Airport has been named the best cargo-handling airport in North America by more than 12,500 readers of Cargonews Asia, an industry trade publication . Port Authority Shanghai Representative Mu Lan accepted the award on behalf of the bi-state agency. The survey voters–shippers, importers and exporters who use freight transport services – based their selections on criteria including “suitable cargo-related infrastructure; cargo-friendly, cost-competitive, fee regime; timely and adequate investment in new infrastructure to meet future demand; and facilitation of ancillary services, including logistics and freight forwarding facilities.” Roughly half the size of Manhattan, JFK has ample room for cargo infrastructure
more development and is capable of handling any type of commodity from fresh fish to farm animals. Its 4.4 |

| MEMO TO READERS: TSA IS
MAKING GREAT STRIDES IN
PREVENTING TERRORISM |
 |
All to often, the only things we read
about regarding TSA and Homeland Security
are negative articles about things they
have missed, or not done, or just plain
negativity about anything done in the war
on terrorism. There are a lot of Monday
morning quarterbacks, but very few willing
to take on the responsibility of taking
on the threats that face our nation.
The following photos from TSA
Archives are just a few of the articles
taken from passengers by screeners at our
airports.
TSA Screeners in Orlando discovered
a loaded handgun stuffed inside a plush
teddy bear as it was being x-rayed the
morning of July 12. (The bear belonged to
a 10-year-old boy who received it as a gift
from a stranger.) |

| JOANNE PATERNOSTER BEGINS
NEW CAREER AFTER 34 YEARS WITH
THE PORT AUTHORITY |
 |
With a degree in mathematics
and a high degree of
youthful enthusiasm, Joanne
Paternoster began her Port
Authority career as a computer
programmer in the Comptroller’s
Department back in 1970.
Behind her were her school
days in Brooklyn and Manhattan;
ahead of her was a trailblazing
assistant directorship at
The Port Authority of New York
& New Jersey. After a 34-year
career with the agency, Joanne
retired this past month to begin
a new career as an aviation and
customer service consultant.
Bill DeCota, Director of Aviation,
calls Joanne, “an incredibly
smart person full of ideas
who steadfastly refuses to give
up on turning her convictions
into reality. The results of her
efforts are evident throughout
our airports, from our customer
care program, which has resulted

double digit improvements
in our customer

| A VISITOR TO JFK |
This is a letter Airport Press
received from an upstate New York visitor
to JFK Airport who has been using
JFK airport for over 40 years -from the
days it was called Idlewild Airport.
To the Editor:
Just a quick happy note about JFK.
I came to your airport in 1960 when it
was named Idlewild. Since that time,
and a few dozen trips through it, my
impression of JFK was one of chaos. On
May 5th of this year, while outbound
with lots of time between flights, I was
happily impressed by clean, functioning,
up-to-date, friendly facilities. I
especially liked the Air-Train. Also, the
grass was well mown and the green
areas well tended.
JFK is finally a unified entity and
makes sense to me. That is quite an
accomplishment.
