INDEPENDENCE AIR TO BEGIN SERVICE TO NEW YORK JFK FROM TERMINAL 4
Independence Air began low-fare service to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) TERMINAL 4 on Sunday, August 1st with 13 daily, nonstop flights to Washington Dulles International Airport. The schedule quickly expands to 17 flights on August 4th. In addition, Independence Air will be adding easy connections from JFK to 26 cities across the country. All flights are now available for sale on the Independence Air website at FLYi.com. All fares are sold one-way and a Saturday night stay is not required for any fare. Seat assignments can be reserved at the time of booking and flights are not overbooked. Fares from JFK to Washington are low-ranging from just $49 one-way to no more than $109*. Web users who visit FLYi.com and sign up for a free membership to the iCLUB frequent flyer program will receive an additional $25 off their first round-trip. Independence Air Chairman and CEO Kerry Skeen said, “The strong positive reaction we’re getting to the introduction of Independence Air is a clear signal that people are really excited about welcoming a competitive new low- fare airline to JFK. We’ve said from the very beginning that Independence Air would challenge the status quo by creating a new kind of air travel experience that is fast, easy and always low-fare-even when you have to travel at the last minute. Now, starting Sunday, we finally get to make good on that promise.” Flights from JFK to Washington will be aboard newly-upgraded 50-seat iJETs with all-leather slimline seats that provide more legroom than ever before.

AMERICA WEST AND VIRGIN ATLANTIC IN JOINT MARKETING DEAL
America West Airlines said it will begin a marketing partnership with Britain’s Virgin Atlantic Airways. The code-share arrangement, which allows the airlines to put their booking codes on each other’s flights in computer
reservation systems and online travel sites, will begin August 7. Airlines hook up through code-shares in order to generate additional revenue from flights they themselves do not offer. The new deal, terms of which were not disclosed, expand on a previous frequent flyer partnership between Virgin and Phoenix-based America West. America West said in a statement that the deal will offer greater North American access to Virgin Atlantic customers while bringing more bringing more passengers into America West’s network. America West, with hubs in Phoenix
and Las Vegas, and Virgin Atlantic have been frequent flyer partners since 1999. America West was the first US airline to win a federally backed loan guarantee after the September 11, 2001 attacks, which helped it remain aloft during the travel downturn.
