Continuing its multibillion-dollar
redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International
Airport, the Port Authority
approved a $75 million contract for the
construction of a new parking garage to
serve the new American Airlines terminal
now under construction.
When completed, the 1,940-space,
five-level facility will be located directly
opposite from the new Terminal 8, and will
connect to the existing AirTrain JFK station.
The contract provides for the construction
of the parking garage, entrance
and exit plazas, service buildings, roadway
modifications and signage, as well as relocation
and installation of utilities.
The $9.4 billion public-private redevelopment
program at JFK has delivered
countless improvements: new and
enhanced passenger terminals; more efficient
roadways; garages providing more
than 5,800 more centrally located parking
spaces; AirTrain JFK and much more. As
the Port Authority enters its second halfcentury
of airport stewardship, it does so
with a pledge to provide the region’s travelers
with the best facilities possible, setting
the standard for excellent customer service
while preparing the airport for the future.
A Port Authority spokesman said;
“The new parking garage is just one example
of Kennedy Airport’s renaissance,
which has transferred the airport into one
of the world’s most efficient. These
improvements, together with unprecedented
security initiatives that we have
undertaken at this airport and at all of our
transportation facilities, underscore our
commitment to the traveling public.”
Construction of the new garage is
scheduled to begin this spring and be
completed by spring 2007. Under the
terms of its lease, American Airlines is
obligated to pay one-third of the cost. The contract for the construction of the
parking garage was awarded to T. Moriarty
& Son, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York.
The redevelopment program for Terminals
8 and 9, operated by American Airlines,
will include new and improved roadway
systems, a new state-of-the-art main terminal and remote concourse. |
