| “TAKING CHANCE” FILMING AT NEWARK LIBERTY AIRPORT |
HBO Films used EWR for a series of locations for the upcoming release: “Taking Chance”. Actor Kevin Bacon portrays Lt Col. Mike Strobl in the true story. Strobl wrote the book and co-wrote the screenplay of a Marine assigned to escort duty. The script follows movement of the remains of Marine Chance Philips. Although the story took place in Philadelphia and Minneapolis, HBO chose EWR to “play” those cities. Northwest Airlines, which was involved in the actual event, played a major part in the filming with NW employees acting as extras. Except during actual filming, everyone on the ramp wore safety vests, including the Mr. Bacon and Director, Ross Katz. |

Airports don’t have a reputation for operating gourmet restaurants, or even interesting local flavor restaurants, but as the travel industry grows and airports strive to distinguish themselves, food and beverage courts are diversifying, too. For local brands, this can mean operating at a much smaller space in a big terminal and attracting lots of customers. Two examples of this phenomenon are located at LaGuardia Airport’s Central Terminal Building. These restaurants are Brooklyn National Deli and Figs. |

Travelers Aid has been providing volunteer services at JFK for 50 years. Assisting distressed travelers with available resources, this group of volunteers provide a service unmatched by even the airlines in whose terminals they work. Need a translator of an obscure Chinese dialect? Need to find friends or family who you are visiting? Need immediate medical assistance? How about a hotel? Drawing on their real life experience in addition to specialized training, Travelers Aid employees receive, all these requests are just "business as usual". On August 1, 2007, Travelers Aid employees hosted a reception in Terminal 4. |

| SEATTLE AIRPORT’S STAND AGAINST THE |
| Joe Alba |
In view of the serious threat posed by terrorists both in our airports and in the outlying areas, it was with great relief that I discovered that Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is now protecting us against Christmas. Recently, I discovered that the Pacific Northwest’s largest airport will be decorated for the holidays again this year, but not with any religious symbols. The Airport’s Holiday Decorations Advisory Committee has decided that Christmas trees are “verboten”. The holiday that rumor tells us offers “peace on earth, and good will to men” has been neutralized; at least temporarily. Travelers can now move about Seattle Airport and fly without that foreboding sense that you might run into a Santa Clause, an elf, a Christmas tree, or some other sign that a national holiday is being celebrated. |
