WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA
CEREMONIES HONOR VETERANS
In what is now very much a holiday tradition, Civil Air Patrol is partnering with Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization with a mission to remember, honor and teach about the service and sacrifices of our nation's veterans. Veteran memorials and gravesites across the nation will be adorned with remembrance wreaths on Dec. 13 in stirring, solemn tributes to the courage and sacrifice of those who have guarded and preserved our nation's freedom throughout history. CAP units will lead almost half of roughly 350 observances this year and will participate with other color and honor guards in many additional
locations. CAP cadets and officers will lay wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery that morning as well. Worcester Wreath Co. donated more than 17,000 wreaths for the remembrances, 10,000 of which will be placed at Arlington National Cemetery. The 10,000 wreaths designated for Arlington will be transported on a 750-mile journey from Harrington, Maine, after a sendoff ceremony
on Dec. 7, and will arrive at Arlington Dec. 13. The route is one the longest annual veterans' celebrations as patriotic Americans, veterans groups and other local organizations show their support for the project with parades and ceremonies at more than 20 stops along the way. The wreaths also will be escorted by as many as 600 to 700 motorcyclists from the Patriot Guard Riders, an organization of more than 122,000 whose primary mission is to attend the funerals of fallen heroes nationwide.

PORT AUTHORITY INVESTS IN
LAGUARDIA AND NEWARK
An improvement in aviation services for metro NY travelers
Building on a program of initiatives to provide relief for air travelers at the New York metropolitan-area airports, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners approved nearly $60 million in investments that will plan for the modernization of a 45- year-old passenger terminal at LaGuardia Airport and create more efficient aircraft operations to reduce delays at Newark Liberty International Airport. The Port Authority also will open a new welcome center at LaGuardia Airport just in time to assist Thanksgiving holiday travelers. It is the second Welcome Center opened by the agency - the first debuted at JFK's new Terminal 5 last month - to
assist arriving passengers with ground transportation, hotel information, and other related needs. More than 20 of the centers will open throughout all passenger terminals at the agency's airports by 2012. The Board acted today to advance the second phase of a study to modernize and redevelop LaGuardia Airport's Central Terminal Building, which handles about half of the airport's 24 million annual passengers. The $40 million study is expected to be complete in 2010. An additional $19.75 million was approved for navigational aids improvements at Newark Liberty, which will enable more arrivals in inclement weather by improving the ability of aircraft to operate in low-visibility conditions.

CHAMBER AWARDS SCHOLARSHIP
TO VAUGHN COLLEGE
Kevin Malone of JFK Chamber presents endowment check to Dr. John Fitzpatrick, President of Vaughn College
The JFK Chamber of Commerce awarded a $5000 endowment Scholarship Fund to Vaughn College of Aviation at an event held at JetBlue's new terminal. Kevin Malone, Chair of the Chamber's Scholarship Committee, presented the award to Dr. John Fitzpatrick, President of Vaughn College. The Card Exchange Event held at JetBlue's new terminal was one of the most successful networking events of the year. The venue was superb. The food was provided by ITG, who operate the restaurants, food kiosks,
and bars at Terminal Five. Citibank was also a sponsor of the event. More than 200 people were present, and everyone wanted to know when the next one would take place.
The JFK Chamber is seeking new members. Its membership drive begins this month and offers a great opportunity for businesses in and around JFK Airport. Call Rudy Auslander for an application at 718-551-1593, or visit us at www.jfk-airport.org and fill out an application form on-line.
