| KENNEDY AIRPORT TURNS 60 |
| Joe Alba |
Happy 60th birthday JFK International Airport; but far from getting close to retirement, JFK is just getting warmed up. There were only modest ambitions for New York's airport when construction started in 1942. Just 1000 acres of marshy land was earmarked on the site of Idlewild golf course from which the fledgling airport took its original name. It was formally dedicated as New York International in 1948 and the first commercial flights took off in July that year. Since then it has grown to nearly 5000 acres, undergone many changes and in 1963 acquired its present title - John F. Kennedy International Airport. Passengers used a general terminal until the first dedicated facility Terminal One was built for Eastern Airlines in 1959. Over the intervening years JFK has sprouted a total of nine terminals and today our airport is in the process of a multi-million dollar development program just announced by the Port Authority. |

| JFK CELEBRATES ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY IN STYLE! |
 |
Jerry Spampanato, General Manager - JFK, and Terry Hennessey of British Airways helped celebrate the momentous day by cutting the cake. They were only two of the many happy people who showed their pride and support for JFK by attending the occasion. Large posters depicting events in the airports history decorated the room, allowing everyone to learn a little more. Complete with sparkling cider, it truly was a commemoration to be remembered. |

| CANINE TEAMS WILL ENHANCE AIR CARGO SECURITY AT DULLES AIRPORT |

TSA introduced three new TSA canine teams to enhance explosives detection capabilities at Virginia's Dulles International Airport (IAD) air cargo facilities. The Dulles teams began training in January and graduated after a 10- week course at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. The teams have been certified in their local environment and are now fully operational. The agency will train and certify more than 400 explosives detection canine teams, composed of one dog and one handler, during the next two years. Eighty-five of these teams will be TSA employee-led and will primarily search cargo bound for passengercarrying aircraft. These TSA canine handlers will complement the more than 500 TSA-certified state and local law enforcement teams currently deployed nationwide to 75 airports and 14 mass transit systems. The new teams will enhance explosives detection in the air cargo |
